Struggling with Infertility
Struggling with Infertility?
NFP is perfectly suited to help couples pinpoint the root causes of their infertility, and then to help the couple address these issues in a way that maintains the God-given design for their sexual relationship as well as the transmission of life.
Oftentimes when a couple is having difficulty conceiving, they may seek out fertility treatments, such as IVF or IUI, but these often just address the symptom (infertility), rather than going deeper to discover the root causes. Because of that, many couples find themselves having to revisit these issues and treatments each time they wish to become pregnant.
If you would like to seek medical intervention to treat the root cause of your infertility, we would recommend seeking out the services of a NaPro Technology-Trained Physician, trained in the Creighton Model of Fertility Awareness.

There are many methods available for treating infertility–some are approved by the Catholic Church as being morally acceptable, and some are not. The USCCB provides this general rule of thumb for knowing whether a treatment is considered to be morally right:
“Any procedure which assists marital intercourse in reaching its procreative potential is moral. Procedures which add a “third party” into the act of conception, or which substitute a laboratory procedure for intercourse, are not acceptable.” (learn more here)
We want you to know that Natural Family Planning, in general, is an incredible gift to couples who are struggling with infertility. Unlike many common infertility treatments, which tend to focus on treating the symptoms of infertility, NFP will help you to pinpoint the root causes of your infertility in a completely licit manner, that is in line with Catholic teaching on the sexual act and procreation. Not only can it help couples to achieve pregnancy, it can also help them to treat the underlying causes of their infertility, so they will be able to more easily achieve pregnancy in the future.
For more specific Catholic teachings on infertility treatments, check out the infertility section on our Resources page. For general Catholic teaching on the sexual act and its meaning, visit our Catholic Teaching page.
The Bible is full of stories of holy men and women who struggled with infertility. These stories have brought comfort and encouragement to many people, and can also help you pray through your challenges with infertility. See the Sacred Scripture section on our Catholic Teaching on NFP page.
